October 3rd & fourth, 2008 HARVEST FEST IN SODUS!
Events start off on Friday night with a Chicken BBQ put on by the Sodus Rotary. This will be in the Food Building at the Sodus Firemen's Field. The dinner's finishing touch will be the desserts from the "Harvest Dessert Bake-Off". This contest is open to everyone and the rules will be kept simple with four categories: pies, cakes, bread, and cookies; all being made using the fruits and vegetables that are in harvest and/or grown locally. They will be judged individually as to texture, appearance and most of all taste, with first, second, and third places being awarded in each division The Youth Division will be for kids 16 and younger and the Adult Division for 17 years and older. Entries must be at the food building on Friday, Oct 3, by 4:00 p.m. for the judging in a non returnable container.
On Saturday for the kids of all ages there is a "Storybook" parade starting at 10:00 a.m. (with line up at Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m.). It will proceed down Main to Mill St and unto the Firemen's Field. This will be followed by a bicycle race around the school. This bike race will have different age divisions and will also include adults who will have the chance to compete on adult toy tricycles. (Which is a sight to behold!)? Skate board demonstrations will be done in the school parking lot to displays their skills. Flyers will be sent home to all kids in primary and intermediate school with all needed info on parade, races and other activities.
Other activities for Saturday at the Firemen's Field include arts and crafts vendors as well as big Farmer's Market. To date, seven local farmers will be there with their home grown produce. The Sodus Presbyterian Church will be selling warm apple crisp, the Sodus and Sodus Point Methodist Churches are combing to sell soup and chili and other goodies, the Sodus Firemen's Auxiliary will have the Food Building open for breakfast sandwiches and coffee, then hots and hamburgs for lunch - and if that's not enough you can get clams, salt potatoes or corn on the cob from the Sodus Masons. Vendors are still wanted and may contact the Sodus Chamber at 315-576-3818, or download information from www.sodusny.com
The Sodus Chamber of Commerce is full of pride with the amount of enthusiasm the community has shown for this project.
